Sometimes the hardest thing is to just begin. For me, poetry started as a child, though I won't go back that far! I was searching. Finding myself holding a microphone in a packed late-night speak-easy in the basement of a record shop in Peckham, or onstage looking toward an enthusiastic sea of people in Rich Mix, Shoreditch, I found what I was looking for. A place where I could be heard and listen to others. To celebrate and be celebrated. The Poetry scene is a unique place of integrity, creativity and culture. This homogenous blend of values provided a place I could call home. Going forward, I knew whether I was performing, lecturing or starting a business, I would always be a Poet.
